Training Practice

We have been a training practice for many years and are very pleased that all our team are involved with this.  We are proud to say that we train GPs, nurses, health visitors and counsellors as well as medical students and even paramedics.  We very much enjoy training and three of our present partners were actually trained here.

As a practice training new GPs we are assessed every three years to make sure we maintain high quality clinical care for our patients.

Training Future GPs
Each year a doctor who has already done at least three years of training after qualification joins our practice.  It is then our privilege to give them their final training before they emerge as fully independent GPs.  The GP training is co-ordinated by Dr Catherine Elliott.  Dr Jane Pargeter is also a qualified trainer and specialises in teaching doctors who come to get extra experience in obstetrics and gynaecology in the practice, as well as what is known as Senior Registrars, who may spend an extra six months in the practice specialising in one particular aspect.  The doctors training to be GPs are known as Registrars and are generally very popular with the patients.  Their presence also commits us to keeping up to date and contributes greatly to the practice.

For any further information on training please contact Dr Catherine Elliott, trainer.  Registrars spend one day a week (Tuesday) at the local vocational training scheme in Banbury.  For more information please see Banbury GP VTS.  They also have a half day off on a Friday.

Dr Francis Bailey (previous GP Registrar): "This training practice was extremely good and will form one of the lasting good memories in my life. The environment encourages commitment and team spirit and I found everyone to be helpful and encouraging".

Dr Tanya Frankel (previous GP Registrar): "I found the practice team to be extremely warm, friendly and supportive".

Training Practice Assessment
We are delighted to say that following a recent assessment visit of the practice
as a training practice we passed with flying colours. The whole practice team
were involved and praise was given for good teamwork, liaison, administration,
protocols and the setting up of the new Patient Focus Group. We were praised for excellent, skilled and enthusiastic training with appreciation of the registrar's individual needs.

The assessors were delighted that concerns which had been addressed previously regarding accessibility and security had been carried out in that we now have a "booking in system" (which seems to be very popular) and a CCTV in place for the purpose of staff, patient and premises' security.
