The Lawrence Home Nursing Team
- The Lawrence Home Nursing Team works closely with patients, their
families, GPs, district nurses, community hospitals, hospices, the Marie
Curie and Macmillan nursing services.
The Lawrence Home Nursing Team was established in May 1999, in memory of
Dr Martin Lawrence, who was a GP at West Street Surgery for 25 years and
was himself diagnosed with a terminal illness and died in February 1999.
During the last few weeks of his life he was cared for at home with
extensive nursing and medical support. It was his wish that other
patients choosing to remain at home should have the benefit of this type
of support to complement the existing services. Consequently, the
Lawrence Home Nursing Team was established to provide skilled care for
the terminally ill who wish to remain at home. The service is available
to anyone living in Chipping Norton and the surrounding area. If you are
interested in knowing more about the service please ask a receptionist
for one of our leaflets.
Midwives
- Much of the obstetric care is led by Frances Barnsley, with the midwives
who are based at Chipping Norton Hospital Tel: 01608 641682 and suitable
mothers can deliver under their care. We are very fortunate to have
excellent facilities and strongly encourage any mother who delivers at
another hospital to have their postnatal care here.
Chipping Norton Hospital
- We are fortunate to have a small and efficient community hospital. There
are 18 in-patient beds and a day hospital, as well as clinical services
including x-ray, physiotherapy, dietetics, speech therapy and podiatry.
A considerable number of specialist consultants from Oxford and Banbury
run out-patient clinics at the hospital which is both efficient and
convenient.
Services are usually accessed via your
doctor, and the hospital enquiries number is 01608 648450.
Also please remember that most capital development at the hospital for
the past 20 years has been through local fund raising through the League
of Friends at Chipping Norton Hospital. Please support the fete and any
bequests or donations are invaluable to maintaining and funding future
developments.
Social And Health Care
- Due to 'pooled budgets' with the Health Service, Social Services have
now changed their name to Social & Health Care.
New services are coming on-stream to provide free rehabilitation
services to people where needed to enable them to return to their homes
from hospital. For all new referrals/advice the Assessment Team can
still be contacted Monday to Thursday 9.00am - 5.00pm and Friday 9.00am
- 4.00pm. (Tel: 01295 252421).
The Specialist Team for Older People (STOP) are still situated in Witney
on 01993 709032. Care Managers based here continue to manage existing
clients.
Ultimately, all community hospitals will have a hospital-based Care
Manager/Discharge Co-ordinator assisting patients through a safe
discharge from hospital.
Teaching
- We are approved by Oxford University as a teaching practice and invite
medical students to undertake attachments with us. Please do not feel
obliged to have them sit in on your appointment if, for any reason, you
are not comfortable with this.
Primary Care Trust (PCT)
- Funding for all medical services in Chipping Norton (including the
hospital) is derived from the Cherwell Vale PCT based in Banbury. This
organisation is responsible for all medical provision in the North
Oxfordshire area. Several of the doctors in the practice are actively
involved in the running of the PCT. The PCT is ultimately responsible
for the organisation and funding of this practice, in particular our out
of hours service.
ACE Centre
-
The health visitors are particularly
involved with the family centre that is based at the ACE Centre, Burford
Road, Chipping Norton where they hold a Well Baby 'drop in' session
every Wednesday at 11.00am to 12 noon. This provides an opportunity to
have a chat, weigh your baby and discuss any issues with a health
visitor from the local area. Julie and Sharon also hold a pregnancy and
baby-feeding 'drop in' support service on Thursdays in the Methodist
Church Hall at 1-2pm. This gives mothers an opportunity to meet other
breast-feeding mums as well as midwifery and NCT support staff.
NHS Direct
- You can telephone NHS Direct 24 hours
a day on 0845 46 47. NHS
Direct is the Government's Nurse-led helpline providing
advice on health and medical matters.
